This Specific Grape wine refractometer is used to measure the sugar content of the grape juice (see the Brix scale on the left) in the brewing process. Then, according to the sugar content of the grape juice, we can understand the alcohol concentration of the grape wine after brewing.
It can measure both the sugar content of the grape juice and the alcohol concentration of the grape wine.
It can not be used to test the alcohol concentration of the finished grape wine.
It is equipped with Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC), so that the fractometer is automatically adjusted to correct temperature discrepancies of environment temperature.

The device uses a Geiger counter, which is an ionizing radiation detector capable of measuring beta rays, gamma rays and x-rays. The working principle is based on the ionizing properties of radiation in the gas. It consists of an ionization chamber or a small room that acts as a detector. When a certain voltage is applied to the detector, the radiation ionizes the gas, producing a pair of ions for each ionization event. This leads to the amplification of the ionization signal, which is then recorded by the electronic device to measure the amount of radiation per unit time.
